The Lok Dal won power in Haryana in a landslide, defeating the Indian National Congress government that had ruled the state.

It won 60 of the 90 seats, enough for a supermajority.

That left it 14 seats clear of a majority.

The Bharatiya Janata Party finished second with 16 seats.

INC had governed Haryana since the previous election, and it suffered a collapse.

54 of the state's 90 seats changed hands from the previous election.

The single largest movement was 21 seats shifting from the INC to the LKD.

Turnout, the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot, reached 70.0%, the highest recorded in the state to that point.

Hissar, Haryana was decided by 1,368 votes — also the seat that drew the most candidates, 38 names on the ballot.

Uchana Kalan, Haryana saw the widest margin of the election, at 63.4% of the vote.

Rori, Haryana recorded the highest turnout of any seat, at 80.3%.

Faridabad, Haryana was the largest constituency by registered voters, with 1,58,948 on its rolls.

Devi Lal built an opposition alliance against the Congress government ahead of the election, with his Lok Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party as its principal partners.¹

The LKD's vote share rose by +14.7 pp from the previous election, alongside a large seat gain.
