The INC won 40 of the 90 seats — short of a majority.

This same party had won far more seats just one election earlier.
It went from 67 seats to 40.
About 72.3% of registered voters turned out to cast a ballot, the highest recorded in the state up to that point.
Notable numbers

The tightest finish was in Dadri, Haryana, decided by a margin of just 145 votes — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second.
The widest winning margin came in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, Haryana, where the winner finished 64.1% of the vote ahead of the runner-up.
Dabwali, Haryana recorded the highest turnout of any single seat, at 87.3%.
The most crowded ballot was in Punahana, Haryana, where 25 candidates stood for the seat.
