Congress sweeps back to power
What happened
Indian National Lok Dal gave up power again, and Indian National Congress won comfortably.
The INC won 67 of the 90 seats — a landslide by any measure.
That left it 21 seats clear of the 46-seat majority mark.
The runner-up, Independent, won only 10 seats — a fraction of the winner's total.
What changed
The party that had governed before this election was reduced to a small handful of seats.
That party was the INLD.
The INC went the other way, growing from 21 seats to 67.
That was enough for 74.4% of the assembly — comfortably more than the 46-seat threshold needed to govern.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from that election stand out.
The tightest finish was in Gharaunda, Haryana, decided by a margin of just 21 votes — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second.
The widest winning margin came in Adampur, Haryana, where the winner finished 63.7% of the vote ahead of the runner-up.
Rori, Haryana saw the highest turnout — the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot — at 88.0%.
The most crowded ballot was in Hissar, Haryana, where 22 candidates stood for the seat.
