The newly created state's first assembly election gave one party a clear, governing lead.

About 69.1% of registered voters turned out to cast a ballot in that first count.

A few numbers from that first count stand out.

The closest race: Sambhalka, Haryana was decided by a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of just 114 votes.

At the other extreme, Badopal, Haryana saw the widest margin of the count, with the winner ahead by 43.3% of the vote.

Turnout was highest in Kiloi, Haryana, where 79.0% of registered voters cast a ballot.

The largest electorate of any seat was at Faridabad, Haryana, where 66,894 voters were registered.

This was the very first test of a state that had only just been created.
