What happened
Congress kept power in this election, winning even more seats than before.
The Indian National Congress won 58 of the 68 seats on offer.
That was 23 seats more than it needed for a majority.
Its closest rival, Bharatiya Janata Party, won just 7 seats.
It was a landslide result, and the party's best seat tally yet in the state.
What changed
INC was returned to office, extending its time in power.
The party had now won 2 elections in a row in the state.
Most of the gain came directly from BJP voters switching to INC, 22 seats' worth.
Both BJP and the state's independents saw their seat tallies collapse in this election.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from the results stand out on their own.
Jawalamukhi, Himachal Pradesh saw an extraordinarily tight fight, decided by a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of just 9 votes.
At the other end, Lahaul And Spiti, Himachal Pradesh recorded the widest win of the night, with a margin of 92.6% of the vote.
Paonta Doon, Himachal Pradesh recorded the highest turnout of the election, 79.8% — the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot.
Kulu, Himachal Pradesh was the largest constituency by registered voters, with 47,448 on its rolls.
