The new map came from a delimitation — the official redrawing of constituency boundaries, which happens every so often as India's population shifts.

The party that won had not existed at the previous election, going from 0 seats to 53.

A few numbers from the results stand out on their own.

Shillai, Himachal Pradesh saw the tightest fight of the night, decided by a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of just 95 votes.

At the other end, Bhattiyat, Himachal Pradesh was the widest win of the election, with a margin of 60.4% of the vote.

Doon, Himachal Pradesh recorded the highest turnout of the election, 74.5% — the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot.

Santokgarh, Himachal Pradesh was the largest constituency by registered voters, with 44,901 on its rolls.

This marked a rare break from Congress's hold on the state assembly.
