Telugu Desam Party held on to power, winning re-election with almost exactly the same result as before.

The TDP won 202 of the 294 seats on offer, a landslide result.

Its nearest rival, the Indian National Congress, took 50 seats.

That gave it a majority of 54 seats beyond what it needed to govern.

This was the rare result where almost nothing changed from the election before.

TDP won its 2th election in a row, its seat count barely moving.

It went from 201 seats to 202, essentially the same result as before.

That was a change of just 1 seat.

A few numbers from that election are worth knowing on their own.

The tightest race was Sri Kalahasti, Andhra Pradesh, decided by a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of just 80 votes.

At the other extreme, Yakutpura, Andhra Pradesh was the most one-sided contest of the year, won by 62.9% of the vote.

Turnout — the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot — was highest in Chintalapudi, Andhra Pradesh, where 83.2% of registered voters turned out.

At the other end of the scale, Paderu, Andhra Pradesh saw just 32.1% of registered voters turn out.

This was the new party's first test of whether its debut win would hold, and voters returned it to power again.
