What happened
Congress held on to power for another term, on a freshly redrawn set of constituency boundaries.
The Indian National Congress won 165 of the 287 seats on offer.
That was 21 seats more than it needed for a majority.
Its nearest rival, the Independent, followed with 68 seats.
What changed
This was the first election held on a freshly redrawn constituency map.
The boundaries had just gone through delimitation — the official redrawing of constituency boundaries, which happens every so often as India's population shifts.
The number of constituencies changed from 300 to 287.
Congress had now won 4 elections in a row here, counting this one.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from that election stand out.
The closest race was in Macherla, Andhra Pradesh, decided by just 80 votes — the margin, how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second.
At the other extreme, Alampur, Andhra Pradesh saw the widest margin of the election, with the winner ahead by 76.5% of the vote.
Statewide, 63.8% of registered voters turned out to cast a ballot — the best turnout the state had seen up to that point.
Ungutur, Andhra Pradesh was the largest constituency by registered voters, with 7,17,670 names on the electoral roll.

New parties also broke into the assembly here for the first time.
CPM and BJS both won seats for the first time this year.
