What happened
Government changed hands again, this time in an extremely tight finish between the two largest parties.
The Indian National Congress won 32 of the 70 seats, again leaving a hung house — a result where no single party wins enough seats to govern alone.
Its nearest rival, the Bharatiya Janata Party, was right behind at 31 seats.

The INC won 32 seats to the BJP's 31 — the two finished almost level.
It also produced the best turnout of any Uttarakhand election yet, with about 66.6% of registered voters turning out to cast a ballot.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from the count stand out on their own.
The closest race: Ranikhet, Uttarakhand was decided by just 78 votes, the smallest margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of any seat that year.
At the other end, Ghanshali, Uttarakhand was the most one-sided contest, won by a margin of 33.1% of the vote over the runner-up.
Hardwar, Uttarakhand carried the largest electorate of any seat, with 1,21,669 registered voters.
Sahaspur, Uttarakhand drew the most candidates of the year, 23 in total.
