The first change of government
What happened
Power in Uttarakhand changed hands, with a new party overtaking the outgoing government to become the largest in the house.
The Bharatiya Janata Party won 34 of the 69 seats, leaving a hung house — a result where no single party wins enough seats to govern alone.
The outgoing Indian National Congress fell back to 21 seats.
What changed
The clearest sign of the shift was how many individual seats changed hands directly between the two main parties.
Of the 69 constituencies compared to the last election, 34 changed which party held them.
The single biggest movement was seats flipping straight from the INC to the BJP, 20 of them.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from the count stand out on their own.
The tightest finish anywhere: Narendranagar, Uttarakhand was decided by just 4 votes, the smallest margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of any seat that year.
At the other extreme, Hardwar, Uttarakhand was the most one-sided contest, won by a margin of 31.7% of the vote over the runner-up.
The best turnout of the year was in Pantnagar-Gadarpur, Uttarakhand, where about 76.8% of registered voters turned out to cast a ballot.
State-wide turnout also climbed to 63.0%, up +8.7 pp from the previous election.
