Tripura's governing left-led party held onto power for another term.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) won 38 of the 60 seats on offer.

That was comfortably ahead of the Indian National Congress, which won 13 seats.

The CPM took 45.5% of the vote share — the slice of all ballots cast that went to one party or candidate.

Even while staying in power, CPM's own support narrowed at the seat level.

It won 38 seats this time, down from 44 at the previous election.

Its main rival made gains too: 7 constituencies swung from the CPM to the INC this time.

A few numbers from that election stand out.

The closest race was decided by just 6 votes, at Takarjala, Tripura.

Asharambari, Tripura saw the widest margin — how far ahead the winner finished over whoever came second — of the night, at 54.5% of the vote.

Boxanagar, Tripura posted the highest turnout — the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot — of any seat that year, at 87.6%.

The most crowded contest was in Mohanpur, Tripura, where 9 candidates were on the ballot.

This was the latest win for Tripura's governing left-wing coalition, in office for years running.

It has now finished on top in 5 elections in a row, including this one.
