Congress wins a commanding majority

The Indian National Congress won this election, taking control of the state assembly with a clear majority of seats.
It won 113 of the 200 seats on offer.
That gave it 12 seats more than it needed to govern alone.
Its nearest rival, the Bharatiya Janata Party, won 39 seats.
What changed
At the level of individual seats, this election reshuffled the state assembly almost completely.
187 of the state's 200 seats changed hands from the previous election.
74 seats alone moved from the Indian National Congress (I) to the Indian National Congress, the single largest shift of the year.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from that election stand out.
The closest finish was at Kathumar, Rajasthan, decided by a margin of just 117 votes — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second.
At the other extreme, Deeg, Rajasthan was won by a margin of 95.6% of the vote, the widest of the year.
About 74.4% of registered voters turned out to cast a ballot at Mahuwa, Rajasthan, the highest share of any seat that year.
At Dungarpur, Rajasthan, only 29.4% of registered voters cast a ballot, the lowest share of any seat that year.
