What happened

Sikkim Democratic Front won every single seat in the assembly, its strongest result yet.

The SDF took all 32 of the 32 seats.

Its nearest rival, the Indian National Congress, won 0 seats despite taking 27.6% of the vote.

It was a landslide by any measure — the party's best result across its own run in office.

What changed

The last seat outside SDF's hands finally came over.

That gain of 1 seat brought its total to all 32.

About 83.8% of registered voters turned out to cast a ballot, also a new high for the state.

Notable numbers

A few numbers from that election stand out.

The tightest finish: Sangha, Sikkim was decided by just 55 votes — the narrowest margin, how far ahead the winner finished over whoever came second, anywhere in the state that year.

At the other extreme, Namchi-Singhithang, Sikkim was won by a margin of 66.5% of the vote.

Djongu, Sikkim recorded the highest turnout in the state that year, at 89.8%.

Chujachen, Sikkim was the state's largest constituency by registered voters, with 12,944 names on the rolls.

The backdrop

This extended a run of election wins for SDF.

It was the party's 4th straight win.
