What happened
This was a landslide: Indian National Congress won control of the house outright.
INC won 42 of the 60 seats — its strongest showing yet.
That was 11 seats more than it needed for a majority — a genuine supermajority, more than two-thirds of the house.

This extended the same party's winning streak by another election, and this time by a wide margin.
INC had now won 3 elections in a row.
Its seat count jumped from 30 to 42.
Two parties, AITC and NPF, won seats in Manipur's assembly for the first time.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from the count stand out.
The closest race was in Hiyanglam, Manipur, decided by a margin of just 17 votes — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second.
At the other end, Singhat, Manipur was won by the widest margin of the night, 69.5% of the vote.
Heirok, Manipur saw 96.0% of registered voters turn out, the highest of any seat that year.
Even with such a wide seat margin, INC took just 42.4% of the vote share — the slice of all ballots cast that went to one party or candidate.
