The BJP — contesting for the first time under that name — won 19 seats on debut.
The Council itself shrank slightly, from 56 to 55 seats.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from that election stand out.
The closest race was in Kasturba Nagar, Delhi, decided by a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of just 18.
At the other extreme, Tughlaquabad, Delhi was won by 46.3% of the vote.
The largest electorate was in Najafgarh, Delhi, where 1,49,673 people were registered to vote.
The most crowded contest was in Ghonda, Delhi, where 19 candidates stood.
The backdrop
This election, too, was fought only under the Council's advisory powers, with final authority resting with a centrally appointed Lieutenant Governor.
