Bharatiya Janata Party held onto power in Arunachal Pradesh, winning a second straight term.

It won 46 of the 60 seats, 15 more than it needed for a majority.

National Peoples Party finished next, with 5 seats.

Turnout, the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot, rose to 86.9%, the highest recorded in the state's own electoral history.

The clearest shift ran from Janata Dal (United) toward BJP.

6 seats swung from JD(U) to BJP, more than any other pair of parties that year.

That took its seat tally up 5 from the last election.

The closest race was at Namsang, Arunachal Pradesh, decided by 56 votes.

Koloriang, Arunachal Pradesh was the most one-sided result, with a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of 82.1% of the vote.

Seppa East, Arunachal Pradesh recorded the lowest turnout of any seat, at 74.4%.

10 seats were unopposed returns that year — seats where only one candidate stood, so no vote was needed to decide them.

On 16 September 2016, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and 43 MLAs left the Congress party for the People's Party of Arunachal, which merged into BJP that December — the shift that first put the party in charge of the state assembly.¹
