Indian National Congress won a landslide victory, extending its winning streak in the assembly.

The INC won 36 of the 60 seats on offer.

It has now won 3 elections in a row.

Its nearest rival, the Nagaland Peoples Council, trailed with 24 seats.

The result also marked a new opposition rival emerging to challenge the government directly.

The NPC finished as runner-up for the first time, with 24 seats.

The INC's own vote share — the slice of all ballots cast that went to one party or candidate — climbed to 51.5%, up +11.6 pp from the previous election.

A few numbers from the results stand out on their own.

Pungro Kiphire, Nagaland had the tightest finish of the election, decided by a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of just 20 votes.

Aonglenden, Nagaland went the other way entirely, with the widest margin of the election in percentage terms, at 85.1%.

Statewide turnout — the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot — reached its highest point in the state's history to that election, at 84.7%.

Ghaspani-I, Nagaland had the largest electorate of any seat, with 33,270 registered voters.

This extended a run of election wins for INC.
