What happened
One party pulled well clear of the rest and crossed the line for a majority entirely on its own.
Bharatiya Janata Party won 32 of the 60 seats.
That was just 1 seat more than it needed for a majority — the narrowest possible working majority.
National Peoples Party was a distant second, with 7 seats.
What changed
The party that led the seat count last time saw a real collapse, and a different party moved into the lead.
12 seats swung directly from Indian National Congress to BJP, the single most common shift of the night.
BJP rose from 21 to 32 seats in all.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from the count stand out.
The tightest finish was in Wabgai, Manipur, decided by a margin of just 50 votes — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second.
Wangoi, Manipur saw 94.8% of registered voters turn out, the highest of any seat that year.
Churachandpur, Manipur was the state's largest constituency by registered voters, with 65,338 on its rolls.
Across the state, 10,349 voters chose NOTA — "None of the Above," a ballot option letting voters formally reject every candidate on offer — 0.6% of all votes cast.
The backdrop
This gave BJP a majority on its own, a stronger position than the one it held after the previous election.
In the 2017 Manipur election, the Indian National Congress won the most seats but the Bharatiya Janata Party, with fewer seats, formed a coalition government with regional allies. N. Biren Singh was sworn in as Chief Minister on 15 March 2017, the first BJP Chief Minister in Manipur's history.
