What happened
One party won by a landslide in the state's assembly election, easily outdistancing a crowded field of smaller parties.
The Indian National Congress won 40 of the 60 seats on offer.
That was 9 seats more than it needed for a majority.
Its nearest rival, the Socialist Party, won just 11 seats.
What changed
Some of this assembly's constituencies used a multi-member design, where a single contest sent more than one member to the house.
12 of Vindhya Pradesh's 48 constituencies worked this way.
Altogether, those constituencies elected 60 members to the assembly.
About 29.6% of registered voters turned out to cast a ballot.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from the results stand out on their own.
The closest race: Kanpura, Vindhya Pradesh was decided by just 22 votes — the margin, how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second.
At the other end, Lidhaura, Vindhya Pradesh saw the widest finish of the election, with the winner ahead by 52.3% of the vote.
Turnout peaked at Niwari, Vindhya Pradesh, where 57.5% of registered voters cast a ballot.
The most crowded contest was at Maugani Naigarhi, Vindhya Pradesh, where 11 candidates stood for a single seat.
The backdrop
This was the only assembly this state's voters would ever choose.
Vindhya Pradesh, formed in 1948 from princely states of the former Central India Agency, was dissolved on 1 November 1956 under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956. Its territory merged with Madhya Bharat, Bhopal State and the existing Madhya Pradesh to form the reorganised state of Madhya Pradesh.
